Often, when looking over the Ordnance Survey maps of the Brecon Beacons area, I came across many amusing translations. However, when walking around Brecon town one day I came across one of the best examples of faulty translation in the form of a street name. Translated correctly, ‘Heol Y Defaid’ means ‘Sheep Street’, not ‘Ship Street’ (unless of course Breconshire sheep float…).
